I'm Sammy Chong, an audio engineer based in San Francisco, California specializing in Punk and/or Rock, Indie and Acoustic. Through Desolation SF, I provide recording, mixing, mastering and audio consulting services. RECORDING/MIXING: I have a ProTools-based set up which I have designed to be portable, specifically for recording in alternative spaces -- for example at your rehearsal room, in your garage, or at your friend's cool beach house. I believe recording in the comfort of your own space can help you concentrate more energy on your performance without the added distraction of an unfamiliar environment.There are also bugetary concerns for many artists today, and location recording can minimize the additional fee for studio rental. For most location recording, I do the mixing here at DSF. Also, depending on the project, I work in other larger studios, with access to recording and mixing formats like ProToolsHD and 2" analog tape, also classic microphones, consoles and gear. MASTERING/OTHER: For mastering, I use my ProTools system and/or other studios depending on the project. I also provide services such as tape transfers, A/D-D/A converting and digital editing. AUDIO CONSULTING: If you're recording your own band, but haven't been getting the sound you want, I can assist you in achieving better quality results by helping you with things such as mic placement, isolation, identifying phase issues, etc. If you have a project that I can't help you with, I can help you find the right people for the job.
